About Our Remote Desktop Computers
This service is for supported Supported Users in the College of Forestry only. A reservation for one of the Remote Desktop Computers can be made from the Forestry Computing Helpdesk.
These remote desktop computers are similar to the computers in the computing labs. They have some, but not all, of the software in the computing labs.
Use of these computers is geared toward people that need to run a lengthy computing process or for cases where the user is working at a remote location and they don't have access to a particular software application. A broadband internet connection from the remote location is also required.

FAQ About The Remote Desktop Computers
Is there a limit on my use of the remote desktop computer I reserved?
Yes. At this time, you can reserve a system for up to 2 weeks at a time.
What will I need to use one of these computers?
As mentioned, you’ll need a computer. You could use any of our lab computers. If you’re off-campus, you’ll need a Windows or Mac computer, a VPN connection to OSU, and you definitely need a high-speed internet connection for this to be useful.
What will it be like using one of these computers?
It should be a similar experience to sitting in front of one of the lab computers. You’ll log in with your OSU user account and have access to your network drives.
Can I install my own software or can you install special software for me?
You will not be an administrator on the computer, so you will be limited in the software you can directly install. We would be happy to work with you ahead of time, assuming the licensing constraints of the software you need allows installation, to get the software on the remote desktop computers prior to your use.
