Using the Forestry FTP site

How do I upload/retrieve files from the FTP site?

  1. In Internet Explorer navigate to ftp://ftp.fsl.orst.edu/pub
  2. In the menu bar click on View or Page and choose Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer

For visiting patrons:

Files may be uploaded by dragging and dropping to the Incoming directory or you may access files from another user by navigating to their user directory.  Once a file is placed in the incoming folder it can only be removed or accessed by a person with a registered FTP account.

For registered users:

After following the directions above, click on File and choose Login As. Login with your Username and Password. Files may now be retrieved from the Incoming folder or files may be placed in your user directory for download by non-OSU affiliates. These files can be accessed by their respective parties by navigating to your user directory on the site listed above.  These files can be accessed by anyone.

How do I create a new account?

Forestry users may request an FTP account by sending an E-mail to Terralyn Vandetta.

How do I change my password?

  1. You will need to connect to the FTP server via SSH (Secure Shell). In order to do that you will need to download an SSH client such as PuTTY.
  2. Under host name you will enter ftp.fsl.orst.edu. All other settings will remain at their defaults. Click the Open button at the bottom once the host name is entered.
  3. If this is your first time connecting you may receive a "PuTTY Security Alert" click Yes to continue.
  4. You will be prompted for a login name and password.  When entering your password it may not appear that you are typing anything at all even though you are. This is normal.
  5. You will now be at the sequoia% prompt. Type in passwd.
  6. You will be asked to enter your old password followed by your new password twice. Once finished type exit to close the session
