Policy on Storage of Media Files (music, video, etc.)
Policy:
Forestry Computing Resources permits the storage of MP3 or other audio and video files on network servers only when those files are OSU work or research-related.
Users that store media files that are not work-related will be asked to remove those files
Explanation:
The University and Forestry Computing Resources must maintain a secure and efficient network system. Media files (music and video, in particular) that are of a personal nature do not belong on the network servers because it consumes disk space and backup resources that are limited and costly for the college. Additionally, there may be copyright and other legal concerns associated with the storage and use of these files.
University policy states that, "It is the policy of the University not to monitor individual usage of any general facility. However, the University reserves the right to monitor and record the usage of all facilities if it has reason to believe that activities are taking place that are contrary to this policy".
